Imvepe Refugee Settlement, Uganda

Jonathan Fambrough November 15, 2019

Refugee. What’s the first thing you think of when you hear that word?

We’ve spent the last week hanging out with two refugees- Gladys and Mary-Sunday- and the reality of their plight has radically realigned our thinking about the word. No longer an abstract of political debate or bleeding news, the refugee crisis of South Sudan has come alive to us in the form of two single mothers in their early twenties who are struggling to re-establish life for themselves and their young children.

Can’t wait to show you around Imvepe. It’s perhaps not what you think. And it’s not all doom and gloom either. There’s extraordinary work being done by dozens of NGO’s (nonprofits) including our host, @childvoice which you’ll hear much more about in our coming film!

We’ll be posting many more photos and updates from #Uganda in the weeks and months to come. Follow us on Instagram @hereiswhy or Facebook @hereiswhyfilms
